Pro and Con on Proposed Georgia Tort Reform
Yesterday, the Atlanta Journal Constitution ran two op-eds on Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue’s proposal to impose a loser-pays rule and limit liability for drug companies (prior posts here and here). In the “pro” piece, Dan Pero, President of American Justice Partnership, argues that both reforms are necessary “to protect state jobs, attract new investment and make Georgia a better place to do business.” In the “con” piece, Jay Cook, president of the board of directors of the Georgia Civil Justice Foundation and a past president of the State Bar of Georgia, questions the efficacy of the FDA, and therefore argues that the proposals undermine public safety.
