GA: House Committee Advances Tort Reform Bill
A Georgia House of Representatives special committee voted to advance a broad tort reform bill yesterday after Governor Kemp agreed to several alterations. The biggest changes came after resistance from victims of sex trafficking. The revised bill exempts such victims from many of the limitations that it sets. Additionally, judges would have discretion to reject a demand for bifurcation in cases involving sex crimes or seeking damages under $150,000. The House will vote on the bill tomorrow, and insiders expect it to be fairly close.
