NC: Sinema Sued for Alienation of Affections
Long-time readers know that I have an affection for covering the heart balm torts, though not the torts themselves. The heart balm torts used to be common, but are now down to about six jurisdictions, with alienation of affection and criminal conversation being prominent. Every few years, a heart balm story makes the national press, usually out of North Carolina.
This version includes a former U.S. Senator from Arizona, Kyrsten Sinema, who is accused of having an affair with a member of her security detail. Unfortunately for Sinema, the former spouse of the person with whom she allegedly had an affair lives in Moore County, NC. The former spouse is seeking a minimum of $50,000–$25,000 in compensatory and $25,000 in punitive damages. The (Raleigh) News & Observer has the story.
